Coromandel
Renowned for its natural beauty, green meadows, misty rainforests and pristine golden beaches, the Coromandel is home to hundreds of natural retreats. Within two hours on either side of low tide, tourists flock to the usually deserted Hot Water Beach for hot water gushing from the golden sands. Carving out your own natural spa on this beach, rated as one of the most impressive in the world, is a must-do.
Off the beach, the Pinnacles Walk is rated as one of New Zealand's most popular overnight hikes. You can walk it in a day (about 8 hours), but staying in the 80-bed DOC hut provides additional opportunities to photograph sunsets and sunrises.
